Race director & Team leader Tina Thörner: Why I’m proud to be involved in FIA SDC

Tina Thörner's career in motor sports started in 1990. Since then, she has won three women´s World Championship titles, a third and a second places overall in Dakar 1999 and 2006 and two world cup wins in rally raid 2008 & 2009.

Just like any other motor sport professional, Tina is passionate about promoting safe, sustainable mobility. Here’s why she is proud to be part of FIA Smart Driving Challenge.

Why are you keen to be involved in FIA Smart Driving Challenge?

It is a way for me to contribute and act, showing I care for the environment and raising awareness about things we can influence ourselves. Our planet is precious, and we all need to do our part to protect its future.

Why is it important for businesses to join the global movement for safer, cleaner roads?

It’s important for us all to take part in creating the change that is so needed for life quality for our future. With reporting rules on climate impact either already in place or likely to come into place soon in many countries, the pressure is on businesses to implement sustainability plans.

What are the business benefits of joining FIA SDC?

FIA SDC helps businesses to raise awareness of safety and the environment. It provides an engaging competition that whole organizations can take part in for the higher purpose. It’s proven that FIA SDC inspires smarter driving, which helps companies work towards their safety and environmental targets.

It also provides some great opportunities for wider engagement, since businesses can invite their team members to join their personal challenges, as well as clients, partners, guests and outside organizations.

What are the worst behaviors you see on the roads?

When drivers are not paying attention and have to brake suddenly, leading to traffic backing up unnecessarily.

What’s your number one practical tip for smarter driving?

Look ahead so you can plan a flow in your driving.

Support safety and sustainability with FIA SDC

The FIA Smart Driving Challenge (SDC) is a worldwide challenge created by the FIA in collaboration with Greater Than to encourage everyday drivers to adopt smarter, cleaner and safer driving behaviors.

While driving, motorists get their driving assessed in real-time by Greater Than’s AI technology, that understands each trip’s level of risk and carbon footprint. Just by making motorists aware of their impact we can create a positive change.
